Set up in 2008, the HIFU Unit was housed in University Hospital Mutua de Terrassa (HUMT) https://www.mutuaterrassa.com/es/hospital-universitario-mutuaterrassa Barcelona, Spain and was led by Dr. Antoni Pessarrodona Isern, Head of OB-GYN Department of HUMT. As of the end of 2019, the HIFU clinical team in HUMT has treated 1,000-plus patients with uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, osteosarcoma and etc, all with improved quality of life. To date, over 50 Haifu Babies have been born after their mothers received HIFU treatment for fibroids and/or adenomyosis in HUMT.

HUMT was established in 1976. It is the general hospital and university hospital of the Terrassa region as well as part of the network of Spanish public hospitals. It offers medical services for patients with Social Security in the lower stretches of Terrassa, covering almost 315,000 people. The hospital now has a total of 34 departments and main service centers, with more than 500 beds. HUMT has introduced two Focused Ultrasound Therapeutic Systems from Haifu Medical, one in 2008 and the other in 2018.

Their study "Using microbubble sonographic contrast agent to enhance the effect of high intensity focused ultrasound for the treatment of uterine fibroids" demonstrates that ultrasound contrast not only serves as a therapeutic evaluation but also can enhance the effect of HIFU.

2015年，西班牙HIFU中心發表題為 “Using microbubble sonographic contrast agent to enhance the effect of high intensity focused ultrasound for the treatment of uterine fibroids”的研究，證明超聲造影劑不僅可評估治療的療效，也可增強HIFU的療效。
